Marvelous M and I decided to skip our original plans of sorting out our house for the first days of the year and opted for a few days somewhere pretty instead.
We decided to go to Maliba Mountain Lodge in Lesotho for a few days and had the most amazing time, building up happiness and sleep stores to start off 2011.
It rained on and off whle we were there, but that suited us just fine and we had time for tea, and reading, some nice walks and just enjoying watching the ever changing view together.
Lesotho is a good place to spot lovely ladies wearing shwe shwe and on our way home through Lesotho to the border I had my camera ready to take some pictures. My nerve was not as ready as my camera though and I missed some really special dresses. The ladies wearing them were involved in their own activities and I felt I could not really get Marvelous M to stop te car and then run back to ask a lady doing her washing, or talking to a neighbour if I could photograph her.
The barrier of seeing shwe shwe from a car and then approaching a pedestrian has always been my stumbling block with getting talking to ladies about their dresses. I vowed to take a morning to walk along the road we came in on next time we are there ( and after such a lovley stay we have told ourselves there will be a next time) . I managed to photograph one blue shwe shwe dress just before we got to the border, a sad reminder of all the lovely bespoke pieces I had missed the opportunity for along the way.
