It is quite difficult for me to take photos of ladies wearing shwe shwe when I am driving past in my car, and to just out an accost someone takes more self confidence than I have at the moment. So sadly I have not been able to capture that many lovely ladies, but this morning my marvelous friend Marlise invited me to do a spot of graffiti removal in our suburb. We were happily painting when Ethel walked past and I was so taken with the way she had used the panel print in a diagonal on her dress and wished I could chat to her or get a picture.
Then I remembered that I had packed my camera and all I needed to do to talk to her was say Hi.
So we chatted about her dress - she made it herself and bought the material in the Eastern Cape where her home is. And she let me take a photo of her gorgeous dress.
Ethel has trimmed her dress with white bias binding and a blue border.
The panel print is normally used for skirts, and they get cut along the dotted lines and then put top to tail with the pattern the same way. So in this case where Ethel has used the fabric as one piece and the lovely shells point both up and down.
